  1. MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON 14 JANUARY 2026

The minutes of the meeting were accepted as a true and accurate record.

Matters arising

Page1 – Cemetery Water Supply

The Clerk informed Members that the additional supply had been installed. He had purchased two new watering cans.

Page 2 – Street Lighting

A Member queried as who had responsibility for the streetlight on the corner of Station Road, Pentre Broughton. The Clerk and the  local County Borough Council Member agreed that it was installed as part of a road improvement scheme undertaken by Wrexham CBC and therefore it was its responsibility.

A request had been received from a resident on Cerney Road, Moss  for additional street lighting.

Members agreed that there was sufficient lighting in that area.

The Clerk stated that he was in the process of obtaining the relevant documentation.

  1. CEMETERY FEES

The Clerk had not been able to obtain fees from other cemeteries and suggested that the issue is deferred until the March meeting.

Members agreed to the suggestion.

In response to a question the Clerk were informed that there were no fees charged for the burial of children.

In addition Members felt that discretion was needed where burials involved former residents who had moved outside of Broughton for certain reasons.

  1. PRIDE IN PLACE IMPACT FUND

The Clerk informed Members that monies were  available to community councils for projects.

Members highlighted potential projects for further consideration including :

  • Refurbishing the tennis court area at Brynteg Memorial Park.
  • Additional or replacement play equipment at one or more of the community council’s play areas.

It was agreed to meet on Tuesday 3 March 2026  at 7 pm at the Memorial Hall, Brynteg.

Statement of Internal Controls

The Clerk outlined the purpose of the report.

Members agreed the report.

 

  1. PLANNING APPLICATIONS

P/2023/0593 – Section 78n Appeal at Lower Berse Farm, Bersham Road, Wrexham.

Members agreed to submit the same response as previously.

 

P/2026/0013 – Works to Protected Trees at 12 Moss Wood Court,  New Broughton

It was agreed to object to the application  on the basis that the real issue is that planning permission was granted for houses too close to the trees.

  1. CORRESPONDENCE
  • The Clerk had been contacted by the Bowling Club to say that they had received a water bill amounting to almost £1,700. In addition Wrexham CBC were denying ownership of the bowls pavilion
  • Notification of the pricing schedule for street lighting for 2026/27 – The fees were agreed.
  • An invitation to attend the Bryn Alyn School production of Aladdin –
  • Letter from Andrew Ranger MP re. the Pride in Place Impact Funding –
  • A thank you letter from Wales Air Ambulance for the kind donation.
  • Email from Ray Parry offering their play equipment services –
  • Email from Carla Hinde, Wrexham CBC highlighting the need for play equipment repairs at Solway banks, Southsea –
  1. MEMBER REPORTS
  • A request for a road closure between Hall View and the unadopted road in Caego – It was agreed that this an issue for Wrexham CBC.
  • Members were informed that a planning application was pending for land at Stryt y Bydden, New Broughton. It was also pointed out the additional areas of land had been cleared.
  • Continuing complaints about dog fouling.
  • Members were informed that land at Lodge Community Centre was up for sale.
  • Concern that the planters at Darby Road, Brynteg were not being maintained.
  • Community Speedwatch – to be scheduled for a future meeting.
  • The idea of an Annual Chair’s Award.
  • A Member asked whether any of the Xmas lights had been damaged.
